An engineer, who found solace in designing and racing ATVs and go-karts, Afzal made the natural move to automotive journalism. His enthusiasm for tech saw him take up reviewing consumer gadgets and soon enough he became the founding editor of Unboxed Magazine. Afzal loves slow travel (something the fast-paced nature of his job tries hard to steer him away from) and is often seen trying to eke out some time for a leisurely stroll through some of the amazing places he visits. He likes to believe that even though he is a tech and automotive connoisseur, he can step back enough from the products he reviews to provide much-needed context. He has shied away from being on camera for most of his career, but is now slowly but certainly spending more time in front of one, nudged by his extremely photogenic cat, Bailey.

The 2026 Skoda Kushaq facelift has officially arrived, signaling a refreshed chapter for the SUV that first set the benchmark for dynamics in the segment back in 2021. While the segment has grown increasingly crowded, Skoda aims to keep its star performer competitive through a mix of sharp design updates and segment-first features.

    A Sharper Visual Identity

Visually, the new Kushaq adopts a cleaner, more modern aesthetic. The front is defined by a new grille housing an illuminated connected strip, complemented by a reprofiled bumper and updated headlamps. At the rear, the design stands out with illuminated Skoda lettering that bridges the LED light bar, creating a distinct nighttime signature.

The color palette expands with three new options: Shimla Green, Cherry Red, and Steel Grey. The Monte Carlo variant remains the choice for enthusiasts, featuring blacked-out trim, red accents on the grille, and red brake calipers behind new 17-inch alloy wheels. For those preferring a more traditional look, the Prestige trim continues to offer elegant chrome detailing.

    Luxury Meets Technology

Inside, the headline is a segment-first addition: rear seat massage functions in the Monte Carlo and Prestige variants. This level of comfort is typically reserved for much higher segments and improves the rear-seat experience. The cabin also sees a tech overhaul with a larger 10.1-inch infotainment display and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that finally eliminates previous dead space. A panoramic sunroof and updated upholstery materials further elevate the interior ambiance.

    Mechanical Refinements

The most significant mechanical update is the introduction of a new 8-speed torque converter for the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This replaces the older 6-speed unit, promising smoother shifts and improved fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre TSI remains paired with the 7-speed DSG but now benefits from disc brakes on all four wheels for better stopping power.

While rivals like the Tata Sierra and Kia Seltos offer more in terms of pure scale and features, the Kushaq doubles down on its identity as the driver’s choice. Bookings are now open, with deliveries scheduled for late March 2026.
